Rx Jump Ropes began as a simple mission to create a jump rope prescribed for CrossFitters. This meant a rope that was fast, functional and resilient. After dozens of prototypes and thousands of double-unders, they figured out few important things.
First, one size does not fit all in the world of jump ropes. Having a jump rope that is properly fitted to your body and jumping mechanics makes all the difference in the world. Every Rx Jump Rope is custom made when ordered by the athlete.
Second, going lighter is not ideal for most people. Everybody has a different level of coordination, dexterity, and articulation. Most people respond better to a slightly heavier jump rope. Rx Jump Ropes carries different cable sizes to meet various work capacities and coordination levels.
Third, the key to consistency is eliminating as many variables as possible. Most jump rope cords made out of rubber, pvc or braided rope have too much flex and stretch. Rx Jump Ropes are made with coated aircraft cable that gives consistent feedback turn after turn.
RX Jump Ropes are fast, functional, and durable. In a word,"smart". And best of all every single Rx Jump Rope is made in the U.S.A.
Sizing Your Rope
Method #1 - The most accurate method would be for you to measure a rope that you currently use. That's a rope that lets you jump with your normal posture using your normal mechanics while allowing for adequate clearance overhead (usually 6 to 8 inches) and a bottom out point within 12 inches from your toes.. That measurement is of the rope only, not including the handles. Please pay attention if your current rope has a flexible cord. The stretch in a flexible cord could add and additional 4 to 6 inches to an Rx cable. We will then custom cut your Rx Jump Rope to that exact measurement.
Method #2 - The next method is a 2 part process to find a general cable length.
- First take your height if you're 5'6" or shorter and add 2'8" to it. Example: 5'6" plus 2'8" equals 8'2". Or take your height if you're 5'7" or taller and add 3' to it. Example: 5'7" plus 3'0" equals 8'7". Write down that length to reference later.
- Next would be to follow the universal standard of measuring from the BASE of your sternum for athletes 5'7" or taller or to the MIDDLE of your sternum for athletes 5'6" or shorter, down under the arch of ONE foot and back up to the same spot on the sternum. Make sure to wear your normal work out shoes and stand up straight while taking this measurement.
- Now compare the 2 lengths from Part 1 and Part 2 and either choose the longer one or split the length down the middle. Either one should be a reasonable length for you to jump effectively with. This is only a general guideline to help you get started.
Cable Choices
Four Cable Choices To Cover All Work Capacities:
Hyper 1.3 oz - NOT RECOMMENDED FOR BEGINNERS.
Aircraft grade cable with PVC coating. Our lightest offering weighing only 1.3 ounces for a 9 foot length (excluding handles). Most comparable to traditional speed cables. The PVC coating does not retain memory and therefore uncoils nicely. This cable produces the fastest cycle rate therefor the athlete must be extremely proficient at double unders. Recommended for advanced jumpers who can already turn 75+ double unders.
Ultra 1.8 oz - NOT RECOMMENDED FOR BEGINNERS
Aircraft grade cable with PVC coating. Our second lightest cable weighing 1.8 ounces for a 9 foot length (excluding handles). The Ultra 1.8 is considered our "hybrid speed cable" due to its light nature while offering more feedback to the athlete. The increased resistance allows the athlete to turn the Ultra 1.8 cable at a slightly slower cycle rate than the Hyper 1.3 yet triple unders are still plentiful. Recommended for advanced jumpers who can already turn 60+ double unders.
Elite 2.6 - IDEAL FOR INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED
Aircraft grade cable with PVC coating. Our mid range weighted cable weighing 2.6 ounces for a 9 foot length (excluding handles). Our most all around utility cable offering a nice blend of light weight with increased feedback and response while it's rigidity maintains a nice "horse shoe" shape while in motion. Recommended for jumpers who can already turn 50+ double unders.
Buff 3.4 - IDEAL FOR BEGINNERS TURNING LESS THAN 50 D/Us.
IDEAL FOR ADVANCED LOOKING TO INCREASE INTENSITY.
Aircraft grade cable with PVC coating. Our second to heaviest cable weighing 3.4 ounces per 9 foot length (excluding handles). Our Dual Threat cable which provides tremendous feedback allowing the athlete to jump with a broader range of tempos from very slow to super fast. Ideal for beginners to gain a better feel for timing while jumping at slower tempos. Also a fantastic training cable for advanced jumpers looking for greater resistance and intensity in their training.
